Middlesbrough’s new era without Aitor Karanka got off to a bad start as they lost to Manchester United 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Red Devils opened the scoring on 29 minutes when Ashley Young played a superb deep ball to the back post and Marouane Fellaini was there to head home.
United’s second goal came on 62 minutes when Jesse Lingard picked up the ball on the half-way line before lashing a swerving shot into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Substitute Rudy Gestede got one back for Boro with 14 minutes to go when Chris Smalling failed to clear his lines in the box and the Belgian pounced to slot home.
And an incredible error from Victor Valdes late on allowed Antonio Valencia to walk the ball into an open net to secure three points.
